Warehouse KPIs

I apologise upfront, but I cannot talk about or express the importance of warehouse and distribution KPI's (key performance indicators) enough when it comes to improving your warehouse and distribution space.
Sorry, but "you cannot improve what you do not measure".
One key aspect to this is engaging the warehouse and distribution staff in the overall goal, "let them, with some guidance" choose the warehouse KPI's (key performance measure) for the department.
This does include some admin, warehouse team meetings, discussion, but as long as a company and a warehousing team decision can be made the benefits are worth it.
Set realistic initial goals, sure if your distribution business is struggling with warehouse pick errors, every warehouse and logistics department manager/warehouse and logistics general manager wants 100% warehouse pick accuracy, (remember warehousing global business pick accuracy standard is 95%).
Set a start point, where is the warehouse department currently at - 80% - 85% - who's crunching KPI data, is the KPI data accurate, is this even reported to the warehouse team?. Is this % a fair reflection on how the warehouse team are performing.
Treat the warehouse KPI project as a reset for the warehouse and distribution department (once the KPI data is confirmed as being correct and everyone agrees).
Everybody from warehouse team members and warehouse managers have varying motivators to come to work to do a good job, you just need to know the motivators...
